Director's Welcome

Our campus is witnessing a significant growth in R&D activities during this academic year. Apart from a large consultancy number of works undertaken by our engineering departments, academic research gains its momentum day by day. Nearly 75 research scholars are undergoing their Ph.D in various fields in all the departments. We have introduced M.S by Research in all engineering departments in order to cater the aspiring engineers directly to pursue their research. 178 papers have been published by our faculty members and research scholars in different refereed journals of international and national repute. 210 papers have been presented in various conferences, seminars and symposia held at national and international levels. Two international conferences were organized one by the Department of ICE (TIMA 2007) and another by the department of Chemistry (ICNA 2007). Our faculty members have delivered nearly 168 invited lectures in different forums across the country and abroad.

Our institute has signed MOUs with industries and institutions in India and abroad to promote collaborative research and consultancies. MOU signed with BHEL, our neighbouring industrial campus provides an opportunity for our young researchers to use the infrastructure in BHEL. BHEL offers scholarships for such research scholars pursuing PhD and MS. The MUO signed with our then parent Bharadhidasan University looks forward collaborative research activitiesto be undertaken in both campuses. Another MOU has been signed with NIMS Japan for the collaborative research in the area of nanotechnology. MOUs with IBM and HP, leading software industries have been executed. HP has offered a Chair position to monitor the ongoing HP projects undertaken by our students.

Apart from the ongoing projects, our faculty members have obtained 20 new major projects funded by DST, CSIR and AICTE with a total cost of Rs 2.5 Crores.

Teachers are the backbones for any academic institution. The growth of any institution will be at stake if due recognitions are not given for them. Realising this fact, Best Teacher Awards are given from this Institute Day to honour the teachers who excel in both teaching and research. 13 teachers are receiving the awards for this year.

Similar to the honouring of the teachers, the best department of the institute has to be recognized and honoured for their outstanding contribution towards teaching and research. For this year the award goes to the Department of Production engineering.

Under TEQIP our institute has been selected as a Lead Institution. 15 faculty members underwent training in universities abroad for one month. The Library is well equipped with latest books in all the areas of Engineering & Technology.

50 new faculty members are recruited this month. I am sure with these additional faculty members, our performance in research front will improve significantly.
