Environmental Biotechnology lab was established by Dr. M. Arivazhagan, Professor, Department of Chemical Engineering, to pursue multi-disciplinary research in the areas of heat transfer, nanotechnology, water and wastewater treatment. Various studies on coagulation and flocculation, electrocogulation, ozonation, membrane bioreactor, algal cultivation, nanomaterial preparation, photocatalysis, modeling and simulation, aerobic and anaerobic wastewater treatment, testing and characterization of water and wastewater, activated sludge modelling, activated carbon technology, bioproducts production, phycoremediation and nanofluids, etc are being conducted.

Key facilities include pH meter, Water analyzer, Turbidity meter, Laminar air flow chamber, BOD incubator, Microscope, Orbital shaker, Hot air oven, Double distillation unit, Electrocogulation unit, Muffle furnace, Spectrophotometer, Membrane bioreactor, Ozone generator, Centrifuge, Algal tissue culture rack, Microwave oven, COD analyzer, Spectrophotometer, Homogenizer and Ultrasonic bath sonicator.
