Dr.P.Muthuchidambaranathan

Dr. P. Muthuchidambaranathan received his B.Engg. Degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Government College of Technology, Coimbatore, India, in 1992, the M.Engg. Degree in Microwave and Optical Engineering, from A.C. College of Engineering and Technology, Karaikudi, India, in 1994. He obtained his Ph.D. degree in optical communication from the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Tiruchirappalli, India in 2009. He is currently working as a Professor in the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, National Institute of Technology (NIT), Tiruchirappalli, India. His research interests include recent technologies in wireless communications, and optical communications. He published his research papers in refereed international journals, and international and national conferences. He is an author of the textbook “Wireless Communications” (published by Prentice Hall of India).

Curriculum Development

  1. Active participation in revising the UG & PG syllabus every year.
  2. Staff in charge of Communication Engineering Laboratory and developing new experiments to apply the recent trends adopted in the field of Communication systems.
  3. Doing all matters pertaining to Communication Engineering laboratory like procurement and maintenance of equipment, purchase of components, arranging for the service/repair of defective equipment etc.
  4. Participated in developing laboratory instruction material for Communication Engineering Lab; Introduced new experiments based on WiComm Kit, WARP and CommSim.
  5. Giving software assignments & mini projects to the students in the upcoming fields of Wireless Communication and Optical Communication during their course of study.

  • Developed Wireless System Design Lab under DST FIST (Fund: 60 Lakhs) (2012-2017)
  • Purchase initiator and Coordinator of Hardware Equipment and Software procurement for the Wireless Communication lab from Agilent Technologies worth of Rupees One Crore (Total Fund: 160 Lakhs)
  • Research Lab. on Wireless System Design aims at wide range of theoretical research, algorithm development, system architectures and testing facilities to meet the industry standards of present and future wireless technologies.
  • Wireless Communication laboratory supports UG and PG laboratory course. Also  PG , MS by research and PhD projects on the design, theory and prototyping of wireless, optical communication systems. The laboratory includes facilities for the real time testing of experimental prototypes as well as computing resources for system design and analysis.

  • Indo-Italian Joint Project–Collaboration with Politecnico di Milano-Italy. (Indo-Italy Exchange of Researchers Program), DST Sponsored Rs. 10.8 Lakhs (2017-2020). Project title: Networked airborne Base Stations for Disaster Management
  • Collaboration with TOMSK Polytechnic University, Russia and University of New Lisbon, Portugal, MHRD- SPARC sponsored Rs. 73 Lakhs (2019 - 2021). Project title: Self-Energized UAV-assisted Communications for 5G Wireless Networks
  • University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, SK, Canada invited three of my research scholars (Area of research: MIMO System, Cognitive Radio, Underwater Optical Wireless Communication)
