Piezoelectric materials produce electrical charge due to the application of a mechanical stress. Similary an applied stress produces electrical charge. Barium titanate, Lead zirconate titanate (PZT) and quartz are some of the piezoelectric materials. They are used in ultrasonic transducers, microphones and as crystal oscillators (eg. quartz watch).
