TECHNICAL EDUCATION QUALITY IMPROVEMENT PROGRAMME

Under TEQIP our institute has been selected as a Lead Institution. The Total Project Lifetime Allocation for NITT, under TEQIP is Rs.200.000 million and the total expenditure as on 31st March 2009 is Rs.214.361 million (including out of Interest expenditure).

PROMOTION OF ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE:

Two post-graduate programmes – M.Tech. in Power Electronics & Environmental Engineering were started in the academic year 2006 - 2007, under TEQIP. Transparency is ensured in evaluating students’ academic performance and the system of showing the semester examination answer scripts to students has been introduced.

EQUIPMENT AND BOOKS AND LEARNING RESOURCES:

A total amount of Rs.106.590 million has been spent towards purchase of equipment for all the departments covered under TEQIP. A wide range of equipment and software have been procured for the departments participating in TEQIP. Campus wide networking has been enhanced at a cost of Rs.13.396 million. Scanning Electron Microscope has been installed at a cost of Rs.4.179 million. EPABX with voice over IP has been procured at a cost of Rs.4.713 million and X-Ray Defractometer Installed at a cost of Rs.5.58 million. A total amount of Rs. 27.730 million expenditure under books and learning resources and total amount of Rs.4.138 million spent towards furniture.

VISITING FACULTY FROM ABROAD:

48 Professors visited from abroad to our Institute to enhance the updated knowledge in the specialized areas to our faculty and students.

FACULTY TRAINING:

Eight Six (86) faculty members underwent training for a period of one month in the Singapore, USA, South Korea, UK, Germany, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, France Austria, Canada, Taiwan, Malaysia, Thailand & Finland. 536 faculty members were trained in India. Training was provided for 171 technical staff and 206 administrative staff respectively.

SERVICES TO COMMUNITY AND ECONOMY:

Total 171Activities Conducted under Services to Community and Economy. 106 activities have been completed under Organized sector. 6745 persons benefited from the various programmes out of which 2181 are women beneficiaries. 6 activities have been completed under Unorganized Sector. 190 persons benefited out of which 17 are women. 27 activities have been completed under Community sector. 4516 persons benefited from the various programmes out of which 2563 are women beneficiaries.

TRIBAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN (TDP):

TEQIP emphasizes the development of the reserved category students at NITT, by enhancing their knowledge and skills, under this TDP. 32 programmes have been conducted and 1191 students have benefited from these programmes.

NETWORKING OF INSTITUTIONS:

NIT, Warangal and NITK, Surathkal and GCE, Salem, Anna University are the Network Partners of NITT. Forty Seven significant activities were carried out with the network partners. Connect NIT a web domain to connect 20 NITs across the country is been developed and came into effect. Joint Research Project with NITK Surathkal, Anna University, NIT Calicut.
