Activities 2025
Karai Badlands and TANCEM Factory Field Visit - 15 October 2025
As part of AR111 Basic and Architectural Design I, the first year students visited the Karai Badlands and the Tamil Nadu Cements Corporation Limited (TANCEM) under the guidance of Prof Pudhuma Bharathi K and Dr K Premkumar. The field visit introduced students to the geological formations of the badlands, where they explored cave paintings, burial practices, and cultural layers associated with early civilizations. The students then visited nearby rock cut temples, observing how material availability, site conditions, and early construction techniques shaped the architectural character of the region. The visit strengthened their understanding of how landscape, history, and culture inform foundational ideas in architectural design.

Pudukkottai Rock Art and Megalithic Site Visit - 24 September 2025
As part of AR103 Architecture of Early Civilizations, the first year students visited the rock art and megalithic sites of Pudukkottai under the guidance of Prof Pudhuma Bharathi K. The field study introduced students to the earliest traces of human settlement, including rock paintings, megalithic monuments, and prehistoric landscape formations. During the visit, students learnt to identify and classify different types of fossils, understand geological timelines, and interpret how early societies expressed culture and technology through their built forms.

Case Study Visit : 17 September 2025

The second year students undertook a study trip to Orathanadu as part of Architectural Design III (AR211) under the guidance of Prof G Sangeetha and Dr Keerthi Manisha, for their second design project which focused on designing a veterinary clinic. As part of the visit, the students explored the facilities at TANUVAS Orathanadu (Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University), where they gained first hand exposure to animal care environments, veterinary diagnostics, and clinic workflows. The sessions introduced students to essential design standards for animal handling, including circulation patterns, isolation areas, hygiene and waste management, and climatic requirements for treatment and enclosure spaces, enabling them to understand how architectural design must respond to the comfort, safety and behaviour of animals in veterinary facilities.
Study Visit - 2 August 2025 - 5 August 2025
The third year students undertook a study trip to Chennai, Tamil Nadu, as part of Architectural Design V (AR311) under the guidance of Prof. Saurabh Kumar and Dr. Arvind Kumar, for their design project focused on high-rise residential buildings. During the visit, the students studied various high-rise residential developments gaining first-hand exposure to their planning, structural systems, and construction processes. The sessions helped students understand critical aspects of high-rise design, including core placement, structural load distribution, water supply systems and service integration. Students also interacted with professionals and engineers involved in the construction of these buildings learning about the practical challenges and management strategies involved in executing large-scale residential projects.

Study Visit - 4th Years - 31st August 2025
As part of the AR411 Design Studio, the fourth-year students visited Coimbatore to study two significant commercial projects with their Faculty Prof. Bhagyasri & Dr. Tony Marcel Nisha. At the Lakshmi Mills Urban Centre, they examined Studio Lotus’s adaptive reuse of a former textile-mill precinct, where the old industrial shell, exposed brick walls, steel beams, and existing roofing systems have been carefully retained and integrated into a pedestrian-friendly mixed-use development. The visit followed an online guest lecture by Ar. Yatin Tokas of Studio Lotus, who was part of the design team for the project.

The students also visited Brookefields Mall, a major shopping and entertainment complex in Coimbatore. Here, they carried out a detailed study of services in a multi-storey building. This visit helped them understand how building services and user-support systems are organised in large commercial buildings.
Study Visit : 18 July 2025
As part of Architectural Design III (AR211), the second year students of the Department of Architecture undertook a study trip to Tanjore and Thiruvarur under the guidance of Prof. G Sangeetha and Dr Keerthi Manisha. Before visiting the case study residences, the students were taken to the Brihadeeswarar Temple in Tanjore, a monument they had previously studied in their Semester 2 History of Architecture (Indian Context) course.

The visit supported the semester’s first design project which involved designing a 5 BHK residence for a Tamil Nadu minister and the trip helped students conduct live case studies of residential architecture. During the visit, students explored four architect designed houses that used exposed brickwork and exposed concrete construction emphasising sustainability and climate responsive design. The sessions were led by Ar Vidhyashankar Srinivasan, who guided the site explorations and later reviewed the students final design works. The study also included works by Architecture Paradigm and Agal Veezh providing valuable insights into contemporary regional residential design.
