Dr. V. Arul Mozhi Selvan is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli (NIT Tiruchirappalli), an Institute of National Importance under the Government of India. He previously served as the Associate Dean (Academic) for Postgraduate Programmes at the institute. With over 30 years of experience in teaching, research, administration, and academic leadership, he has made significant contributions to engineering education and research at the B.Tech., M.Tech., and Ph.D. levels. Dr. Arul Mozhi Selvan obtained his M.Tech. in Energy Engineering and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from NIT Tiruchirappalli. As part of his doctoral research, he established an advanced Engine Research Laboratory and conducted pioneering experimental investigations on the performance and emission characteristics of a variable compression ratio engine fueled with diesterol–nanoparticle blends. His research outcomes have contributed significantly to the fields of alternative fuels and sustainable energy systems. He has published more than 100 research papers in reputed international journals and conferences. He played a key role in developing the Engine Research Laboratory and Fuel Testing Laboratory at NIT Tiruchirappalli, creating state-of-the-art research facilities that meet international standards. His research interests span automotive engineering, alternative fuels, energy systems, emissions control, waste management, and sustainable technologies.

Dr. Arul Mozhi Selvan serves as an active reviewer for several leading international journals, including Energy, Applied Energy, Renewable Energy (Elsevier), Energy & Fuels (American Chemical Society), Chemical Engineering Communications (Taylor & Francis), and the Journal of Petroleum Technology and Alternative Fuels. As a dedicated research mentor, he has successfully guided 9 Ph.D. scholars, while 5 doctoral candidates are currently pursuing research under his supervision. He has also guided 60 M.Tech. dissertations and 40 B.Tech. projects. In addition, he has delivered over 50 expert lectures at engineering colleges and universities across India. His commitment to faculty development is reflected in his participation in 28 Short-Term Training Programmes (STTPs) and the successful organization of eight national-level Faculty Development Programmes (FDPs) for engineering educators. He has also visited more than 20 industries spanning the automotive, power, energy, electrical, electronics, and communication sectors, strengthening academia–industry collaboration. Dr. Arul Mozhi Selvan has been actively associated with the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) India and currently serves as the Chairman of the SAE India Southern Section – Tiruchirappalli Division. He has been the Lead Champion of the SAE International Conference on “Advances in Design, Materials, Manufacturing and Surface Engineering for Mobility (ADMMS 2025 & 2026)”. He also serves as a Faculty Advisor for BAJA SAEINDIA, one of the country's premier national-level all-terrain vehicle design, fabrication, and racing competitions. In recognition of his outstanding contributions to SAE collegiate activities, he received the Chairman’s Award from the SAE India Southern Section. Beyond academics and research, he serves as the Coordinator of the NITT Community Radio Station, which broadcasts educational, social, and cultural programmes through NITT Radio FM 90.8 MHz and its internet radio platform, extending educational outreach to society. He is currently the President of the Officers’ Club, NIT Tiruchirappalli, and serves as the Chairman of the Animal Welfare Committee. He previously served as the Chairman of the Safety and Security Committee of the institute.

Prior to joining NIT Tiruchirappalli, Dr. Arul Mozhi Selvan served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at J.J. College of Engineering and Technology (JJCET), Tiruchirappalli, where he was also the Faculty Advisor of the Fine Arts Society. His passion for arts, culture, and music inspired and mentored numerous talented students, several of whom later emerged as leading figures in the Tamil film industry, including actor Sivakarthikeyan, music directors Santhosh Narayanan and Dhibu Ninan Thomas, actor-singer-director Arunraja Kamaraj, and lyricist-composer Muthamil. His contributions to environmental sustainability earned him the prestigious Green Environment Award for his self-financed initiatives in creating and maintaining a green campus environment at NIT Tiruchirappalli. He has also filed six patents with the Intellectual Property Office, Government of India, focusing on innovative solutions in waste management. Dr. Arul Mozhi Selvan is a Life Member of the Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE) and a Member of SAE India. In recognition of his professional achievements and technical contributions, his biography was featured in Marquis Who’s Who in the World (2011 Edition). He is also a recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award from Sri Krishna College of Technology, Coimbatore. Through his distinguished career in teaching, research, academic administration, professional service, environmental stewardship, and student mentorship, Dr. V. Arul Mozhi Selvan continues to make impactful contributions to engineering education and societal development.
