M.Tech

The focus of the M.Tech. The degree program in Communication Systems is on a thorough and in-depth study of Communication theory from a signal processing perspective as exemplified by courses like Advanced Digital Signal Processing, Coherent Optical Communication, High-speed Communication Networks, and Error-Control Coding. A broad theoretical base is provided through courses like Linear Operators and Integral Equations, Probability and Stochastic processes, and Signal Detection and Estimation. The coursework has been designed with a curriculum laying strong emphasis on designing both Analog and Digital Electronics, with in-depth analysis on the principles of MOSFET, BiPolar devices and their applications, advanced concepts, and recent trends in the fields of Digital Signal Processing, ASIC, Low Power VLSI and with thorough knowledge on testing of Integrated Circuits. The students also undergo laboratory programs on the design and implementation of DSP modules and fiber optic devices, besides devoting their entire final year to the project work.

The analog and digital electronics circuits have grown enormously in complexity and functionality in the IT age. To cope up with this trend, knowledge, and experience on the use of computer-aided design automation tools have become mandatory.

The M.Tech. degree course on VLSI System provides just that to aspiring postgraduates from all branches of Electrical Sciences. To cater to the practical inputs required by the program, a VLSI Design Laboratory equipped with several up-to-date VLSI CAD tools like OrCAD, MICROSIM, SABER, and FPGA/PLD has been set up. The curriculum of the program is so designed that students from all branches of Electrical Sciences have scope to learn and develop new algorithms for testing VLSI systems. The curriculum consists of core courses devoted to the design basics of VLSI systems, hardware description languages, and CAD tools. The elective courses are oriented towards imparting specialized knowledge and skills in the use of advanced VLSI design techniques for the different disciplines within Electrical Sciences. The students also undergo laboratory programmes on the design and implementation of digital modules through Verilog HDL and analog modules through Cadence environments, besides devoting their entire final year to the project work.
