The Department of Energy and Environment(DEE), National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli, organized one-week self-sponsored workshop on “Instrumental Methods of Analysis” from 24-26, January 2019 with an objective of providing hands-on training in instruments like TGA, TG-IR, CHNS/O, DSC, UV/VIS/NIR Spectroscopy, IR Spectroscopy. The scope of the workshop is to introduce the sample preparation, basic principles of thermal analysis, data interpretation and demonstration of the instruments. The workshop was organized and coordinated by Dr. M. Premalatha and Dr. D. Ruben Sudhakar. The number of participant attended the workshop was 80 from various institutes and industries.

  1. Dr. A. Lawrence, DGM-BHEL (Retd.), explained the application of Thermo Gravimetric Analysis.
  2. Mr. S. Madhu, Scientist (Retd.) - CECRI handled the session on CHNS/O.
  3. Ms. Varthini. R, Assistant Professor, GCE - Srirangam handled the session on Research methodology.
  4. Dr. P. Vickraman, Prof., Gandhigram Rural Institute, Dindigul handled the session on Differential Scanning Calorimetry.
  5. Dr. B. Karthikeyan, Associate Professor, NIT, Trichy handled the session on Basics of Spectroscopy.
  6. Mr. Anandhan, Analytikjena handled the session on Total Organic Carbon, Total Nitrogen Analyser for solid and liquid samples.

 

As an outcome of the workshop, one can characterize polymers, organic or inorganic chemicals, metals, semiconductors and other common classes of materials.
